Hi everyone! It’s been a minute since I’ve written, but a lot has been going on in my personal life recently. Mason and I’s daily routines have been thrown off majorly and it’s been quite chaotic, but we’re hoping to get back into a semi-normal routine here soon. So, hopefully that means I’ll be back to posting a new blog post this week!
As the title says, we have some exciting news to share! Just yesterday evening, we officially adopted two very sweet, very cute gray tabby cats named Kiki and Oliver and therefore became Mom and Dad! We have been talking about adopting animals even before we got engaged, so to see this dream of ours come true is incredibly exciting. I’ll be sharing some pictures of them below so you can see!
Their adoption story goes like this: a week or two into my unemployment, I visited a cat cafe not far from our apartment because I had driven by it multiple times and, being a major cat lover, obviously wanted to check it out. For about an hour that afternoon I got to interact and play with some very sweet, wonderful cats that I wanted to take home with me that same day (apparently, that’s very common for visitors of the cat cafe). A cafe employee proceeded to tell me that all of the cats there were available for adoption through a local animal shelter, and they receive new cats almost weekly that people bring by for various reasons, mostly being that they find strays near their homes. I remember texting Mason telling him, “We HAVE to come down here together soon,” because my initial visit was on a Monday afternoon (#justunemploymentthings).
A few weeks later, Mason and I paid a visit to the same cafe. While we thought all of the cats there were absolutely precious, there were two male cats there that really caught our attention. They literally begged to be held like babies by all of the visitors! The amount of “AWWWs” I heard that day were quite a lot. I think we both were quite infatuated with the bonded pair of brothers, and we put in an application the very next day.
Not long after, we heard back from the adoption center that the two brothers were in the process of being adopted by someone else, because, get this….they put in an application literally the day before us. We were so close! While we were initially pretty disappointed, we knew that we would find the cat (or cats) meant for us. And soon after, we set up a meeting time for another bonded sibling pair named Kiki and Oliver that were available for adoption.
About a week later, we made the short 30 minute drive to go meet Kiki and Oliver at their foster mom’s house. Out of the two, Oliver is a lot more outgoing and social and wanted to play with us almost right away. Kiki took some time to come out from under the bed, but with lots of treats, pets, and play time, both of them cuddled with us and started purring. Their foster mom said she had not heard Kiki purr in the two months that she’s been fostering them! We took that as a very good sign that these were the cats that we were meant to find and love. As cute as kittens are, I did not feel up to the extra special challenge that was taking care of a baby animal. Kiki and Oliver are three years old and still have some kooky energy but not as crazy as a kitten would have. We thought and still think they are the perfect cats for us.
Two weeks and several shopping trips to the pet store later, we signed the paperwork and got the carriers ready to go pick them up! It hasn’t even been 24 hours since they’ve officially been ours and they already feel like they’ve been a part of our family for forever. We love them so much already and can’t wait to care for them for many years to come. We are beyond excited for our growing family! ❤️🐈
Thank you for reading this short post about our babies. I’ll be back soon!
All my love,
Grace, Mason, Kiki and Oliver
